![]() Spend the money for one - DON'T DOUBT ME on this one. My best suggestion to you is to get a reprint of the Body/Trim/Sealer Assembly Manual for your year of 'Bird - it has step-by-step instructions on how the door was put together, and by having this in hand you can work backwards for disassembly as well as have a ready reference as to how things go back together. You may also have to do some disassembly of the guts of the door to get to things, especially if you're going to remove the latch button and chrome bezel along with the lock cylinder. The door trim will require you to remove the door trim panel, and you'll need to have the windows raised along with having a bunch of long socket wrench extensions to get to the retaining nuts. I suggest using a nylon or plastic tool for this like a plastic putty knife that can get under the trim and be rocked/rotated upwards. ![]() You'll need to remove all of the nuts and screws first, then, starting at one end, slowly work the trim up and off the pinch welds, and work your way to the other end. Look for the locations of screws holding the peak moldings to the rear of the front fenders, nuts securing the clips at the inside front of the front fender, inside rear of the rear quarter fin caps, screws at the underside ends of the door peak moldings and, most aggravating to get to, the nuts inside of the door that flank where the door grab recess is. (Note: By belt-line trim I mean the strips of chrome that run along the top of the body line / fenders / fins.)Īs Royce mentioned, there is a diagram of the clips and hardware locations in the Shop Manual. The quarter trim panels are held in place with screws in several places, so slowly work your way around the panel to find them. I'm curious, how do you (properly) remove the belt-line trim from a 61-63 bird? I want to do prep work myself before sending the car off to paint, and I'd like to temporarily remove the trim while doing so. NickQ wrote:I searched but didn't find an answer.
